What it is

A specific, hands-on adjustment

Diversified uses a short, quick thrust applied by hand to a particular joint that the examination has identified as restricted. The contact is precise and the movement is small.

It is the most widely taught adjusting method in chiropractic, and it is one of several Dr. Younker uses depending on what your examination shows.

How it feels

What to expect in the room

You will often hear a pop. That sound is gas releasing within the joint, not bones cracking, and its presence or absence does not determine whether the adjustment worked.

Most people describe immediate relief of pressure. Some feel mild soreness for a day afterward, similar to the feeling after new exercise.

When it is used

Choosing the technique for the person

Diversified suits many spinal and extremity restrictions. When it is not appropriate, because of osteoporosis, an acute disc problem, a recent injury, or simply patient preference, lower-force options such as SOT or COX flexion-distraction are used instead.

Technique selection is a clinical decision made after your examination, and it is explained before anything is done.

FAQ

Common Questions

Does the popping sound mean something is out of place?

No. The sound is gas releasing in the joint fluid. Adjustments are effective with or without it.

Is it painful?

Most people find it comfortable and describe relief afterward. Tell Dr. Younker if anything is uncomfortable and the approach changes.

Can I ask for a gentler method?

Yes. Lower-force techniques are available and nothing is done that you have not agreed to.
