What to Expect

What to Expect at Your First Visit

If you have never seen a chiropractor, you probably have three questions: what happens, how will I feel afterward, and will it hurt? Here is the honest version.

The sequence

Step by step

01

Schedule

Call the office or send a request. We will confirm a time and tell you what to bring.

02

Check In

You will be greeted by our friendly staff and find a peaceful, calm environment as you complete quick and easy paperwork.

03

Consultation

Before any treatment is applied, you will first go through a consultation about what brought you in.

04

Health History

A review of injuries, surgeries, conditions, medications, and how your symptoms have behaved over time.

05

Evaluation

An exam to identify current issues. Should your health history and exam suggest it, x-rays will be recommended to help pinpoint your specific issues.

06

Discussion

Dr. Younker explains what he found in plain language, and you decide together what makes sense.

07

Personalized Plan

A plan that considers the extent and severity of your injury or irritation, your overall health, the condition of your spine including age and previous injuries, and your goals.

08

Next Steps

Clear expectations about follow-up, what to watch for, and what you can do between visits.

A first visit takes longer than a follow-up because of the consultation, health history, and exam. Call the office and we will tell you how much time to set aside.

Comfort

Will it hurt?

Most patients find adjustments quick and well tolerated. Some feel temporary soreness afterward, similar to the day after unfamiliar exercise. Nothing is done without explaining it first, and you can ask to stop or change the approach at any point.

If you have a condition, injury, or history that makes a particular technique inadvisable, that is exactly what the exam and health history are for.

Practical

Payment and cancellations

What to bring: a photo ID, your insurance card if you have one, a list of any medications or supplements you take, and any imaging or reports from other providers involved in your care. Completed new patient forms save time at check-in, and comfortable clothing you can move in makes the exam easier.

Payment for appointments is collected at the conclusion of each session. It is the patient's responsibility to submit a claim to their insurance provider. We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, cash, and check.

We request you cancel 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment. Any cancellation less than 24 hours in advance, or a missed appointment, will be charged the normal patient fee.

FAQ

Common Questions

Do I need to fill out forms before I come in?

It helps. Printable new patient forms are available so you can bring them completed. If not, please allow time before your appointment to complete them in the office.

Will I be adjusted on the first visit?

Not necessarily. Treatment follows the consultation and exam, and only when findings support it.

How should I dress?

Comfortable clothing you can move in.

Can I stop in before scheduling?

Call the office first so we can find a quiet time to show you around between appointments.
