After a Car Accident in Grand Junction: The First Two Weeks

Why soft tissue injuries often show up days later, what to document, and how MedPay works in Colorado.

Short answer

Get examined even if you feel fine, because whiplash symptoms commonly appear 24 to 72 hours later. Document everything, and ask your auto insurer about MedPay, which in Colorado often covers care regardless of fault.

Why you may feel fine at the scene

Adrenaline and muscle guarding mask injury. The stiffness, headache, and restricted turning that define whiplash frequently arrive one to three days after the collision, once that guarding settles.

What to document

Photographs of both vehicles, the police report number, the other driver's insurance details, and a short daily note of your symptoms. That plain daily record is often the most useful thing a patient brings to the first visit.

How MedPay works

Medical Payments coverage is an optional add-on on Colorado auto policies that pays for treatment after a collision, generally regardless of who was at fault. Call your insurer and ask whether your policy includes it and what the limit is.

Bring the claim number and adjuster contact to your first appointment so billing can be handled correctly from the start.

What the first visit looks like

A consultation, an examination including neurological testing, and digital X-ray when the history and findings suggest imaging would change the plan. If anything points beyond conservative care, you will be referred.
